SAE-UK incorporating the Institute of Vehicle Engineers is the oldest society solely concerned with the automotive industry. It is the only professional society dedicated solely to the vehicle and component manufacturing industries.

SAE-UK incorporating the Institute of Vehicle Engineers organises annually Design Award Competitions, Vehicle Engineering Technology Competitions, a Vehicle Technology Conference and Technical lectures which provide forums for the exchange of new ideas and processes at Centres throughout the country. (See events calendar.) SAE-UK magazines disseminate news of the industry and its advances.

From time to time an Essay Competition under the Maythorn Bequest is arranged.

SAE-UK incorporating the Institute of Vehicle Engineers, aims to expand its influence in design for safety and the use of new technologies and materials. It continues to represent members in the design, manufacturing and related sectors of the vehicle industry.
