SAE-UK is an Affiliate of SAE International and has recently merged with the Institute of Vehicle Engineers. It now has more than 2000 full and student members.

SAE-UK incorporating the Institute of Vehicle Engineers is the oldest society solely concerned with the automotive industry. Its roots go back to the early 1880’s when prominent coachbuilders of the day sought to safeguard and maintain standards of design, materials and production. It is the only professional society dedicated solely to the vehicle and component manufacturing industries.
SAE-UK incorporating the Institute of Vehicle Engineers organises annually Design Award Competitions, Vehicle Engineering Technology Competitions, a Vehicle Technology Conference and Technical lectures which provide forums for the exchange of new ideas and processes at Centres throughout the country.
